Do you know someone who’s been affected by cancer? Are you aware that cancer survivors are one of the country’s fastest growing constituencies? Today in the United States there are more than 9 million cancer survivors (a person living at least five years after being diagnosed) and that number is climbing rapidly. But what happens when people who have been out of the workforce for months or years, decide to return? Cancer will affect one in three Americans during their lifetimes. While medical care is essential for cancer survivors, often it is just as important for these people to maintain as normal a life as possible to speed recovery, maintain financial independence and a positive quality of life. For many, work is the cure. But once people are treated and living longer, where is the investment in helping them back to work by overcoming personal, financial and institutional biases faced by cancer survivors? Where are the advocates educating business and government on the value of working with these exceptional people? Good Health for Life helps get cancer survivors back to work by focusing its operations and grant making on Entrepreneurship and Advocacy. We are a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to efforts that oppose the marginalization of cancer survivors from the workplace and deem it unacceptable that businesses should squander the talents of more than 9 million American cancer survivors and those that will be diagnosed in the coming years. In addition we ask, why should they be forced to burden their families, Social Security and the Medicare system when they can continue to contribute to society? With this in mind, providing cancer survivors with the resources they need to succeed has been a key priority for Good Health for Life. We need your help! Good Health for Life seeks to offer extensive assistance not available elsewhere by providing 10 professional development scholarships for entrepreneurial cancer survivors. The Good Health for Life Entrepreneurship Scholarship Program for Cancer Survivors, ‘Work For Life!,’ is the nation’s only major scholarship program supporting the philosophy of entrepreneurship for cancer survivors rather than a specific profession. Funds raised will be used to provide each recipient who demonstrates leadership, ingenuity and entrepreneurial spirit a scholarship of up to $25,000 to complete a one-year business development program through the Good Health for Life Entrepreneurship Center. Upon completion, the scholarship recipient will have created a new, self-sustaining business. Under the theme of ‘Work For Life!,’ we hope to work hand-in-hand with our corporate partners to bring about a successful and memorable result that will positively impact not only the cancer survivor, but also the community at large. Good Health for Life recognizes that support from corporate sponsors and the entrepreneurial community is critical to our organizational success and we are dedicated to sustaining longstanding partnerships that create mutual benefits.
